How to Store and Freeze
These cookies store beautifully, which is why they are such a staple for holiday cookie exchanges. Keep them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
If you want to freeze them, you can freeze the baked, unsugared cookies for up to three months. When you’re ready to serve, let them thaw at room temperature and then give them their double coat of powdered sugar.

no entiendo que significa la C
que representa la taza
me pueden decir si el azucar y la harina son tazas
Ambos son en tazas
I know the recipe calls for all-purpose flour. Could I substitute that with self-rising? I know to omit salt
I've never tried it, but I think it will work just fine.
any kind of nuts, coconut, dried cranberries…. any of these can be added…
even a chocolate chip hidden in the middle.
I've made these for over 40 years and ALWAYS delicious!
I've even had friends say their gift of a dozen never made it home …all eaten in the car !
Very delicious!
Nuts are essential when I bake them. Sent several dozen as Christmas gifts this year!
This may sound silly but….do you use salted or unsalted butter? 🙂
The recipe calls for unsalted, however you can use salted; you would just omit the salt in the recipe then 😉
All the bakers in my family have been making these cookies for years, also with the chopped pecans. I make them both ways – love them! To me, they're basically shortbread. Thanks for posting this timeless classic recipe.
I make those with pecans too. We call them "snowballs".
I make cookies similar to these, except mine have finely chopped pecans in them. They are one of my favorite Christmas cookies!! Also I roll them in the powdered sugar as soon as they come out of the oven and again after they are completely cool…
without the pecans, they are just globs of dough!! lol
think i may try these to send my husband whos deployed for his Christmas care package !
What a thoughtful thing to do…tell him I said Thank-you for his service.
Gorgeous cookies! 🙂
